I am often on the go, so being able to read Digital Forensics Magazine on my phone is very useful. I just viewed issue #1 with my Droid X and it worked fine. However, like you stated, none of the other issues opened.

While it would be nice to be able to access the issues via Zmag’s plug-in, I do download the PDF versions for reading on the go. It’s really a matter of convenience to be able to access the other issues via Zmag.

Some years ago I used (an older and fully licenced version)AOPR to try and get the PW of a word document and after about 5 days of running day-and-night. It stopped - by itself - with a message like "This PW is proving difficult to crack, We suggest you try an alternative strategy". So whilst this is a great package to 'play' with and to illustrate the key PW breaking stratgies, its usefulness in a real world setting is questionalbe. Finds short simple PWs fast and easy, but is challenged by anything more serious.
regards

Hello and welcome to the DFM Blog.

From what I can gather, I do not see any reason why the Accent Office Password Recovery Software would not be able to recover the password. However, the free version does not recover the whole password if it is more than 4 characters long (last time I checked anyway). To recover the whole password, you will need to purchase the full version of the software.

I will forward your question to the Forensic Professionals on our LinkedIn group and see what answers they come up with.

Regards,

This isn't a bad article at all. In reality, cybercrime has become a huge issue in the way of National Security, etc. @Macrostic, yes, you're right, there are plenty of other companies offering plenty of Digital Forensics Training, and your kinda right, it does seem like the author is puffing up just one company, but in reality, it's a short article and you can't expect the author to cover every company offering DFT... If he/she were, then it's only one step away from trying to list all the companies available that provide forensic hardware...

Either way, I do think it's a decent article, and I thank the author for providing it.

Would it not have been useful journalism to identify the report you refer to rather than concentrating on puffing one company's offerings in training Ethical Hackers?

I am assuming the report is the OECD's Reducing Systemic Cyber Security Risk. It is downloadable from: http://www.oecd.org/dataoecd/3/42/46894657.pdf
