Trapping The Attacker
Aaron Momi and Haider M. al-Khateeb continue their investigation into the modern application of Honeypots. The Honeypot technology draws upon deception to learn from the attacker and improve security. It has a promising role to discover and provide a level of potential resistance to attacks including the very challenging case of Advanced Persistent Threats (APT). This is the second article looking at the modern application of this technology and aims to demonstrate the practical implementation steps of a virtual Honeynet to be used as a deception tool, a research tool and an alert system. Honeynets should be considered as an integral part of the security infrastructure for most organisations. The implementation is based on the Honeynet design published in the previous Issue of DFM.
