Challenging cryptographic performance

The demand for cryptographic methods has always been strong. The ever-expanding use of technology for communications, banking and financial transactions of diverse types, secure communications, and many other applications is driving the demand. Brian Cusack and Erin Chapman show us how to improve cryptographic algorithms.

The consumers of cryptography products are requiring ever increasing protection with less and less cost. In real terms this means that cryptographic researchers and developers have to be constantly improving the performance of their algorithms. These algorithms are to maintain the confi dentiality of communications, the integrity of the messages, and the accessibility of information to the users. The requirement for privacy of information has become an increasingly challenging requirement that is caught in inter-jurisdictional debates of legality and the ability of developers to provide the levels of protection required.
