Faster Searching for Known Illegal Content

Identifying problems and exploring methods to improve on-site triage when looking for known illegal content.

Data sizes and the number of items being seized as part of a typical investigation are increasing. However, the typical size of the digital forensic unit hasn’t increased on the same trajectory. This has led to many units having a backlog of work. Other units have implemented novel, and sometimes-questionable methods to try and handle the increased workload. Anyone who has worked in this area knows the consequences of these backlogs may be devastating, especially with much of the work undertaken by digital forensic analysts being associated with Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) type enquiries or Counter Terrorism (CT) operations.
